The Haveli Collection at MAP consists of over 2741 textile objects and over 2050 archival materials, all belonging to the Haveli fashion brand established in the 1980s by Poornima Jain in Maharani Bagh, Delhi. The collection consists of costumes and textiles from across the world, primarily from Asia and Africa which inspired the erstwhile designer to create womenswear, muslin prototype toiles of Indo-Western silhouettes, household decor and numerous swatch folders.
The collection encompasses a wide variety of authentic handloom and handwoven textiles. Some examples include African raffia textiles, a Japanese fireman’s jacket and wedding costumes from the Swat Valley in Pakistan, gota patti wedding tunics embroidered with real gold and silver thread, a tie-dyed Mashroo brocade coat, Kotpad tribal textiles, a Rogan art piece, and a Kalamkari panel from India. A significant component of the collection consists of muslin and toile samples that serve as a reference archive for aspiring designers and design students.
Archival materials in the collection include wooden printing blocks, design specification sheets, tracing sheets, Madhubani paintings, photographs, student project books, and other documentation that sheds light on the workings of a textile and fashion design studio. The collection was gifted to MAP by Aparajita Jain Mahajan.
